2025 Glimpse – Smile Welfare Foundation

In 2025, Smile Welfare Foundation continued its work across education, scholarships, and student development. Through Personality Development Classes (PDC), Sadhana scholarships, Punnagai Paalam tuition centres, and Atchaya infrastructure assessments, we strengthened opportunities for students across Tamil Nadu.

Key Highlights (2025)

  • Personality Development Classes (PDC / Shiksha): Smile conducted 7 PDC sessions, reaching approximately 900 students. Sessions were hosted across multiple locations including Chennai, Mannargudi, Karaikudi, and Mamandur. Smile also plans to facilitate PDC sessions in 14 additional schools by August 2026.
  • Government of Tamil Nadu – PDC Approval: The Government issued an order to conduct PDC sessions in 15 schools across 6 districts, supporting Smile’s expansion into government schools.
  • Alagappa University – Karaikudi: Smile partnered with Alagappa University to facilitate PDC sessions, with a formal agreement finalized in the presence of the Vice Chancellor on 9 September 2025.
  • Sadhana Scholarship – 2025: The Sadhana application process was conducted online for the first time (since 2004). Smile received 439 applications; 201 were shortlisted and 131 students were counselled by 31 May 2025. Later in 2025, 34 students were selected from 428 applicants, with donors secured for 31 students and first-year fees paid for 34 students.
  • Punnagai Paalam (PP): Smile continued operating 3 tuition centres in Cheyyar, supporting 110 children with 6 tuition teachers. Students also achieved strong 10th-grade results and were recognized by Smile.
  • Atchaya (Infrastructure / WASH focus): Smile assessed needs at Orakattupettai Government Higher Secondary School (Kanchipuram district), including water supply improvements and repairs to sanitation facilities, to plan future support. Assessment is completed and looking for donors to support this initiative.
  • 21st Anniversary Celebration: Smile’s 21st Anniversary was held on 28 September 2025 in Taramani, Chennai. The chief guests were Smile alumni, and 34 Sadhana students were honoured. A donor also gifted two laptops for Smile’s Placement Cell.
  • Networking & Outreach: Smile participated in a Career Guidance workshop hosted by the Department of Education (Govt of Tamil Nadu) on 21 November 2025, and introduced the Sadhana Scheme to schools in Chennai through partner NGO collaboration.
